Shake it off...lose the photo guilt

Any Taylor Swift fans in the house? Do you know the song, ‘Shake it off’? I like it. It has a great beat and a great message for all those people that have been intending to organize their photos for years. Here’s why.

I see and hear about photo guilt on the daily. It's very common for me to run into someone, whether they are a client or not, and have them apologize to me about the state of THEIR photos. Maybe it was someone who bought tons of supplies at one time and didn't do anything with them, or someone who has talked about contacting us, but life happened.

Shake it off, folks. These are YOUR memories and as much as I want you to have them in your life, and I really do, only YOU can decide when you are ready to tackle them. And you will (and be glad you did).

We spend FAR too much time feeling guilty for our past photo sins. My recommendation is to refocus that energy and start small and manageable. If you don’t have the time now to go back, start from the present and move forward setting up a backup system (I love Backblaze - easy and inexpensive) and cleaning up the previous month’s pictures. Delete the screenshots and the 10 photos you took to get the one good one. Or, start with ONE project that would make you SO happy to have done.

The reason the task of organizing your photos is so overwhelming is that we feel like we have to solve 20 years of photo sins all at once. It's pretty simple, we don't.

Have a success...relish it...enjoy it...share it...then make a plan for the next phase or project. And the guilt over the rest...shake it off!
